Manhattan isn't the only island within New York City filled with history. Governors Island is filled with historical buildings, Revolutionary War reenactments, and tours. Once you step off the ferry and onto Governors island you will feel like you are in a small town. You will aslo get to experience some amazing views of the Manhattan skyline.
The ferry to Governor’s Island
is absolutely free, where you will have access to this 172-acre island which opened to the public
only in 2003. There’s also bike path, mini golf, a picnic area, and a ‘ghost town’ at Nolan Park. Ferries leave from Battery Maritime Bldg, Slip 7 in Lower
Fun Fact: In 2009 Prince Harry played a polo match on this island, and celebrities such as Madonna attended the event.
